Ney is equally at home on electric and acoustic guitar. His musical influences are in European and Hindu classical music, jazz, rock, and in the music of Brazil. Ney is also a masterful recording artist on percussion who favors exotic instruments such as the Central African udu ceramic drum, the Turkish dhumbek, and the Indian tabla, as well as cymbals and bongos.
When Ney was 20 years old in his native Brazil, the renowned contemporary composer Lindenberge Cardoso was so impressed by the young newcomer's unusual brilliance that he scored the electric guitar part in his new work for orchestra and electric jazz band especially for Ney.
Ney’s release of his first recording: "Voyages Of Fire", displayed a rare combination of striking compositional talent and awesome technical virtuosity on the acoustic guitar. The recording received 3 Wammie Award nominations alongside maestro Mitislav Rostropovich and Van Cliburn Medallist pianist Santiago Rodriguez. Ney composed has the theme music for the Rosebud Film and Video Awards, which was broadcast by CNN, MTV and numerous other cable networks.
Ney was recently honored by an invitation to perform in Washington D.C. for Vice President Al Gore at his birthday celebration and had also performed for first lady Barbara Bush. |
