This book is one of the best approaches to learning the fundamentals of Metal Lead Guitar. It provides a progressive introduction to the 5 Pentatonic Scales used for rock soloing, and most importantly, gives representative licks from each scale, and then combines those licks into a solo at the end of each chapter. This provides the student with a means for really integrating the material, and proving to themselves that they have mastered it. If you can't play the solo in time with the rhythm track (provided on CD on course), then, you don't really know the material! Speed Exercises, scale sequences, picking techniques, harmonics, and use of the vibrato bar are all covered as well. For the Principled Player who knows how to study and how to practice, it doesn't get better than this book when it comes to grasping the essential tools of Metal Lead Guitar!
