My Videos

Postby tadejsusta » Sun Dec 28, 2008 4:12 pm

Ok guys, I'd like to dedicate this thread to my videos.

I'll post links here to the videos (covers, licks, etc.), which I'll be putting on the Internet (YouTube)

What I'd like from you guys is to go and check them and then give me an honest and constructive feedback, thoughts, etc. on:
- vibrato, bending
- posture, fingerings
- how "smooth" it looks
- left hand, right hand position
- etc.

I'd appreciate it very much!

Nice job!
I really like the Dire Straits one, beautiful tone and nice vibrato. I actually enjoyed all of them, i though each one displayed skill, i am just particilarly fond of the Dire Straits one. I am not experienced enough to offer a technical critique, but i think i could safely say that if you are playing the music you want and getting the sound that you want(and others enjoy) you must be doing a lot of things technically well. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

(ps: what does (cover) mean?)

A cover means that you're playing a song from beginning to end of another artist who originally made that song.

An example: Guns 2 Roses is a cover band, covering Guns N Roses' songs.

I've made it to dream theatre so far

Dire Straights was great except for the audio recording, but I couldn't turn it off.

Guns and Roses needs something "attitude". Get mad at something, or drink a shot of something that makes you.. agitated...

Dream Theatre...

I think it is 98% great, excellent high notes, rock vibrato. A few rough spots on the rock vibrato, and the sliding what I'll call "the fourth part", the sliding can maybe - maybe - use some more attitude "bleeding fingers" / faster / stronger slides or "ability to" you see... ( and how that would translate ), and you might well consider a classical vibrato in that area instead of a rock vibrato, which might entail a different neck angle - which is not to be feared...

Overall Amazing.

Try to crank out some pure excellent clean audio, I'll for sure be listening.

Is there anything that I've said that you're not already aware of listening yourself ?

what do you mean by audio recording? You mean the backing track of it?

light_rock wrote:Guns and Roses needs something "attitude". Get mad at something, or drink a shot of something that makes you.. agitated...

well, I'm trying to get all the notes as accurate as possible so I'm more concentrated on playing correctly than trying to have "the attitude"

Are you referring with "attitude" that the notes are there but there is no soul in them?

Yes, this song should have more work put in it.

You say that the high notes were great, whereas I thought that the notes on the high frets aren't so good yet

I'm not sure how a classical vibrato should sound like. Could you give me a link for of a YouTube video of someone playing a piece which contains that vibrato?

Well thank you, I try.

I think I am aware, or I hope so.

That's why I'm asking people here to give me some feedback.

Thank you for putting the time to give me this comment, I appreciate it!

I mean to suggest that what you are playing is in its way BEYOND youtube video, and I would like to hear the best dang recording sound quality possible.

With or without backing.

Yes exactly. To me, it appears you are at or well past the point to go for soul, so to speak.

>>Dream Theatre...

>You say that the high notes were great, whereas I thought that the notes on the high frets aren't so good yet

I think you're doing great. But maybe the sound quality of the video isn't good enough for my old ears to tell any better. I'm pretty sure though, doing well at least on the higher frets.

>I'm not sure how a classical vibrato should sound like. Could you give me a link for of a YouTube video of someone playing a piece which contains that vibrato?

Classical style vibrato, or whatever the right words are for what I would like to describe is...

In short, by way of example, take a fretting hand ring finger, stick it down and fret a note, in the middle between the frets or close to the fret wire ( experiment )
and it is like you see a cello player, a bit of arm motion parallel to the string, a bit of heavy arm down onto the string through the finger, a little bit of relaxed and or firm wrist.

The idea popped up because you went from a slide into some notes.

The ability to readily accentuate those notes right there would sound cool-er and the classical vibrato is ready to go whereas you'd have to switch up something to get ready for a rock vibrato.

You can almost always use the classical vibrato whenever you have your left hand at or near a classical form instead of an angled thumb behind type rock form.

IMHO - it pays to develop that classical vibrato for the color in many situations.

WARNING: I could be full of hot air depending on your guitar and amp settings might drown / not notice / the classical vibrato. But it seemed to me at the time that it would work swell.

By the way... Re: My Videos

If you haven't done it already...

Get yourself into a band.

There is no "ready" there is only "do" or "do not" to quote Yoda again.

I know people who don't play as well as you do who support positions in bands in Austin.

Bluntly, this appears to be your direction, no reason putting it off any longer.

Here are some quite good videos and exercises for stringed instruments.
