Ney,

It has been a very long time since I posted to the forum or since we have talked. But, I couldn't miss this opportunity to congratulate you on your achievement and wish you much success with this DVD release.

And for anyone interested, I took lessons with Ney for about a year and attest that he is an incredible teacher and player. I can't wait to get my copy...

does anyone know if there is another thread about Ney's DVD, where people discuss the questions one might have after watching the video and when there is something unclear, or should you just ask Ney directly via e-mail?

I imagine you'd ask Ney directly. Keep in mind much of this takes a long time to digest. I went through literally the whole first and second DVD taking copious notes. I made copies of the diagrams, and I'm working through up a lot of the motions. Discovering the sounds I want in my head and how to get there. Even then it's taking me a long time to do with a lot of the stuff I have to do and want to do on guitar and in life. But when I do get to work on it I see progress as long as my focus is right.

A lot of stuff has to be "re-discovered" where I'll have to take what Ney has on the DVD and translate into my own physical experience. Needless to say even with a visual this takes a lot of work and very close and careful attention to what's actually happening with you and in you physically and otherwise-but it's vastly superior to trying to translate what Ney has put down about the physical motions in print on this board and trying to figure it out(a lot of the GP board long-timers will know exactly what I'm talking about!) Also a lot of Jamie's works can sort of light-speed you to this place with the correct study applied where you can really see what's going on inside yourself and outside yourself as your arm and what's happening is treated as something outside yourself in a sense in practice even though it is not. I'm digressing a little bit so...

A lot of questions would probably be answered in "The Principles..." by Jamie or "Deeper..." as far as practice approaches (a few webcam lessons, and the other material by Jamie wouldn't hurt either!). If it's something as far as clarity or deeper into something it would be at Ney's discretion and expertise where that begins or ends so I'd shoot him an IM and see. Technical questions can't be answered by email or IM for obvious reasons at least as far as if it's not covered in the DVD.\

So I don't know! But I gave it a good shoot in trying to answer this one.

A little silly I know. ;)

I have purchase many of the lick library dvds but although they are very usefull, they dont seem to show what i am looking. I want to develop speed and start playing those classic rock licks implementing fast economy and alternate picking. Will this dvd help me train my right hand at that level??

Most definately yes! The training that is taught in this DVD allows one to go all the way to complete mastery of the right hand pick technique in many styles.

Yes it will help you achieve that. Whether or not you will be able to play like Jimmy Page after watching I couldn't say but it wont hurt.
It will help you also in a Gary Moore/Walter Trout kind of way as they use a lot of very fast runs.
Ney illustrates a lot of very fast high tempo runs.
I purchased the DVD and it has helped me.
It covers so much in variation of movements and teqniques that I was really impressed.
Ney is very well spoken and he conveys the ideas clearly.
I am a visual person and this method of instruction worksbest for me.

Happy Shredding

Just received my copy this week and one word...EXCELLENT.

Ney, thanks for this contribution to my guitar education! This is the perfect companion to Jamie's materials. I haven't even made it through the basic exercises chapter and already my play has exponentially improved! I'm playing electric, and simply using your demonstrated picking and muting techniques has solved so many problems I've spent weeks trying to work out.

I just love the way I'm sounding now with these new insights. Time to start the exercises :D

I'd say he's actually doing legato and does pick only the first note on the string which is being played. I might be wrong, it's really hard to see i must say

He just picks now and then and doesn't even come close to a jazz picking technique, as you mentioned in your other post. It's very easy to reach this level of picking because you just fill it up with hammers & pulls.

When it comes to picking, I wouldn't take him as an example if I were you. Nice feel though...

Some decent pickers I learned from:

- Al Di Meola
- Shawn Lane
- Guthrie Govan
- McLaughlin
- Jimmy Bruno
- Birelli Lagrene
- Frank Gambale (grandmaster of Economic/Sweep-picking)
- Malmsteen (although less good on acoustic)
- And ofcourse, Ney Mello :)
