fingerpicking chord change (C to F w/ thumb over the top)

Postby vzk » Mon Apr 09, 2012 12:08 pm

Hi everyone. I've been teaching myself fingerstyle blues, and have just started breaking down all of the many snags in my playing with the Principles. One thing that is difficult for me is going from the C chord to the thumb wrap version of the F chord. I have been trying to figure out the most efficient way to do this so that I can play in the key of C at something closer to normal speed.

Here's my breakdown: Fingers 2&3 simply move over one string--that is easy enough. But then it seems I have to rock my hand toward my thumb to catch the 6th string, then rock back the other way to get my index finger on the 1st string, then rock back AGAIN to get the 2nd string under my index finger as well. (I don't seem to be able to just put my index finger down and get both strings at once--I can't flatten out my index finger for a 2 string bar without ruining the placement of fingers 2&3.)

Thank you for any thoughts!

Unfortunately, I don't have the technology to do that right now.

Hello,

The fastest and most secure way...is to schedule a webcam lesson with Jamie. Ask to use a friend's computer for the lesson. She will fix you right away. Contact Geraldine to set your appointment and move on with your playing.

Since you live in San Francisco (quite near Jamie in the West Coast) you can also get a personal consultation with her. They are incredibly effective and unforgettable learning experiences. Students fly form all over the world to get this wonderful guidance for Jamie. :)

Believe me, I have absolutely no doubt a lesson with Jamie would be the bomb and you don't have to try to sell me on that. I can probably manage access to recording a video before I can manage lessons though so I'll work on that. I realize it's nearly impossible to address my difficulty without visuals, and I do appreciate both of you taking the time to read and respond.
