Building a Principles friendly guitar

I'm building an experimental electric guitar, and I'm trying to think of ways that normal guitars aren't ideal, particularly ergonomically (balance, positioning, body shape,). If anyone has specific ideas I'd love to hear them. It's so easy to get used to something through repetition, even if it's not right...
I position my guitar on the left knee, and also play standing.
