Hoping for a second chance

Postby BarryJ » Fri Jul 08, 2011 6:05 pm

Hi everyone

This is not my first time here but I've been away for quite a while. I had made lots of plans last year, got the Principles book and DVD and then things in my life took a turn for the worse. A series of bitter disappointments, heartbreak and other personal crises took their toll. It was all I could do just to pull myself out of bed in the morning and get through the day.I felt like the creative part of me died and my guitar lay aside and gathered dust. I tried picking it up occasionally but I felt nothing inside, as if all I wanted to express was gone.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I have been blessed by extraordinary luck and the opportunity for a second chance at my career. The rest of my life is far from perfect but it's a lot better than it was. There are possibilities now where there was none. So I don't want to delay any more and want to take a second chance with the guitar. Also since my financial situation has improved I've bought a relatively inexpensive laptop with integrated webcam and a new nylon string guitar that I really love. So I think the next step is some webcam lessons with Jamie. Maybe someone could advise whether my webcam is of sufficient quality. It is 1.3megapixels.

Anyway, that's the background. I know music can be lots of things from deeply meaningful to fun. My primary motivation in learning is to express something deep inside. The nylon string also feels right at the moment. I remember Jamie quoted someone before saying "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent". Those few words say more than I could about why I'm here. I have a lot of hurdles to overcome. I have been very clumsy, uncoordinated and carry lots of neuromuscular tension since birth (I'm 38 now). It's going to be a long process to do even the simple things but I hope I'm on this world for long enough to get a least part of the way on that journey.

I hope you'll all excuse my making a second introduction here but this really feels like I'm starting all over from the very beginning again. The Principles book and DVD are great but I think I really need the webcam lessons. Once I'm confident I have a suitable webcam or if I need to buy another I'll book a lesson with Jamie if she'll have me :)

Thanks for listening guys
Barry
