What we are in life ...

Postby Adrian » Tue Apr 10, 2012 9:06 am

Hi,

I'm writing an essay as part of my Alexander Technique training course and am doing it on the guitar.

There's a a quote from Jamie that I want to use as it's so appropriate but I can't quite recall it or find it's original source.

the quote was something like - what we are in life is what we are as guitar players.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

many thanks,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

The quote is "what you are as a person is what you will be as a guitar player". I don't know what essay that appears in. I do know, however, that it is true!
Best,
Jamie

Thanks Jamie,

the quote is so relevant to Alexander Technique it's perfect for my essay. I guess it's what Aldous Huxley would have called a 'perennial truth' :)

thanks again,
Adrian

I reckon I am almost at the point where I could identify the category of one of Jamie's articles from any single quote!

It appears in "Types of Guitar Students" in the "Taking Lessons" section.

If you have a copy of The Principles DVD, there is a section at the end of the video, entitled, "Summa Principia", in which there are twenty principles discussed. The quote you are talking about is in the discussion of Principle #17.
Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Practice slow to learn and play fast.
