"Great guitar technique:

The ability to execute efficiently, safely, and accurately the
precise motions needed to achieve a predetermined expressive
musical effect, for example, a single note, a chord, a melody
or harmony."

This part is fine.

But how do you obtain it?

"This is a result of great desire and love(needed to do the
hard work that is required)"

Work at what?

My first reaction to this was "practice". But practice what? the precise motions needed for what I'm trying to achieve I would say. The problem is that I dont always know which motion is best or most efficient. Probably because I don't put enough effort and thought into that part of the process.

New try:
Great technique is the discovery, by study, of the most efficient motions to achieve a predetermined musical effect, and putting those motions into effect by the usage of correct practice.

Great Technique is creating room for the music that is always there.
It is also being satisfied and enjoying your current level of playing.
It is also being yourself a good teacher and to do the stuff you need to do that you can do it...
Maybe it is everything that makes you a happier more enjoying person.

Ok another definition for what i meant.

Great technique is the ability or the state of full concentration to whatever you do on your instrument.
It will happen naturally when you practice/ play what you really want to play with the necessary knowledge about the music ( knowin always what you want to hear and how to achieve it)- lacking knowledge about fingering, rhythm or whatever will create confusion and criticism and so no total focus on the music.

This is much much closer.

Keep these and think a bit more about how to clarify this. Righ now it is still too vague to be used.

Great technique is the ability of executing the motions, which need to be learned, without any intention (in terms of a thinking process) of actually executing them.

Well even though this topic is four years old and I'm amazed it was dug up I didn't participate in it the first time, so I'll go ahead and do so now.

Guitar Technique is the ability to play something in a proficient manner that you desire to play.

Great Guitar Technique is quite a bit different, its a proper understanding and display of the mechanics involved in performing an action on the guitar.

Anyhow that's my best answer as of now.

ON READING THE PRINCIPLES WITH SUBLIME FOCUS

Postby moved from old forum: » Fri Nov 07, 2008 12:59 pm

Take your time and read the principles. Anyone who reads the principles with enough devotion often enough can put the definition of great technique in their own words just by reading the principles with a sublime level of concentration.

Strive to be entirely sublime in your focus as are all great players whose music touches your soul and provokes your uplifting.
