Hi Jamie

Here is my go at Andantino on page 69.

I have tried to avoid the peeping thumb but I am still not sure about my left hand position.

Hi Simon,

That sounds fine, very nice and smooth. I am not sure if you are using a rest stroke on some of the melody notes as indicated. It is a players choice, but I want students to be able to do it in any case.

As far as the left hand, I don't see a problem here, but this piece is not demanding. Have you ever done justice to the walking exercises in The Principles? That is where these left hand weaknesses are first addressed. In other words, what does the 1-4 combination look like when done at the 1st fret?
Best,
Jamie

Hi Jamie

Yes, I think I may have missed out on some of the rest strokes, or maybe done half hearted ones in some places. It would probably have been better a bit slower. I was aiming for 100 bpm, which I think is andantino.

I will post some walking exercises at the first position later in the week, I am still not really satisfied with them in the first position, I am in my 60's and it is taking a long time to develop my left hand properly. It's not as flexible as it was. :-)

I will bet you it is not a matter of age, it is simply a matter, as I said, of "doing justice to them". You haven't done that yet, so why assume it is age?
Best,
Jamie
