Ken-Length of free strokes (distance traveled by the finger)

Postby moved from old forum: » Tue Sep 16, 2008 12:55 pm

Anyone,

The length of the rest stroke is obvious. It ends on the next string - regardless of volume.

I think I may be moving too far when doing free strokes during posing and no-tempo.

It occurred to me that at higher speeds it is probably best to have as short a stroke as possible. I have been posing like the beginning rest stroke exercise in the principles book - which exaggerates the movement a little to get the feel.

Does it depend on volume, and should I just always just keep it as short as possible to sound the note correctly? That would be way shorter that what I have been doing.

Thanks

Jane and Mark, I love your videos BTW.

Hi Ken,

Yes, generally, keep them short. And most importantly, make sure that the fingertip stays close to the string.

Looking forward to seeing some videos!

Thanks.

Soon.

I am only posing and doing no tempo.

I was devastated. I am fine now.

I need to figure out the technology- which takes away from practice time - hence the delay.

Thank you.
