Hello From Southern California

Postby RatherBeInCabo » Tue Nov 09, 2010 11:20 am

Hello all,

Just joined the forum and ordered the Principles of Correct Practice Yesterday.

I began my guitar journey just about 2 months ago at the age of 52. I am starting with a G&L Legacy 30th Anniversary Strat and 2 amps. I had decided I was going to learn using online resources. I spent some time with 2 of the major sites and started to pick up some good info. However I felt none of them explained the required "body mechanics" needed to play. I started search for info on proper left hand technique and found my way to GP. From all I have read so far, I think this is going to be the place for me to learn how to play guitar.

I've been a big music fan since the late 60's and I still attend concerts on a regular basis. Going through high school in the early 70's during the birth of hard rock shaped my musical tastes which have stuck with me ever since. I have always loved guitar solos and wanted to learn to play. Just wish I started about 40 years ago. Many of my favorite bands are still on the road performing well into their 50's and 60's so I know I still have time to make a go of this!

Thank you Jamie!

Can you offer any practice suggestions while awaiting the arrival of the book? I don't want to continue any bad habits even for a week.

Thanks,

Marc

Yes, do everything you do super slowly with great attention to your entire body..........you will be doing a lot of that when you get the book!

Keep reading the site as well.
Best,
Jamie

I can't believe it's been a year and 3 months since these posts were made  I got side tracked along the way with information overload and tried everything but the "Principles of Correct Practice". I nearly gave up hope at playing guitar. I was doing some reorganizing around the house and came across the book and DVD and started looking at it again. At least I know that what I have done the past year has not worked to my expectations and I need to give this a go from square one again.

The good thing is it all makes sense now! When I knew nothing at all, it all seemed so overwhelming.
