How about some GP Jam?...

Just in case by some unlikely chance you ever think of anything other than guitar, and may want to talk about it here, this forum is dedicated to everything in life other than guitar. Of course, we understand that eventually everything does find its way back to the guitar.

In any case, have fun!

How about some GP Jam?...

Postby Stan » Wed Nov 10, 2010 5:16 pm

Jams are a lot of fun and useful to our development as a musician... so how about some GP Jamming?

Here are some options I was thinking about :

1) Living close by to another GP'er - get together and jam.

2) Video jam options :
- Skype - I have not used Skype - how much of a delay is there?...
- "Jam over video" - One makes a video, postrs on YouTube - another jams to the video making a video of that so both tracks are heard clearly enough...
- "Frankenstein Jam" - requires several GP'ers in my mind. The way it works - the group decides an ONE song and a SET beat. Then the song is cut up into pieces (one verse or several measures or w/e). Each participating GP'er chooses one or more pieces and records THAT piece at the right tempo. Then someone collects all of the pieces and splices them together to make one whole song... as performed by different GP'ers on different guitars. I could probably do the editing - but I'll warn you in advance - I am an amature at that with some VERY basic free tools to do it... This I would do with something relatively simple (in terms of technical demands and chords) - like "House of the Rising Sun" or something like that. Optionally, if we have volunteers - someone could create a backing track so that we all work against the same beat / backing... That would tie it together rather nicely, I think...

What do you guys think?.... Yay / Nay / other ideas?

Count me in Stan!

I have the basic gear to create some pretty cool backing tracks. The video jam sounds great for those without a recording setup. I can create an mp3 backing track and send it around to anyone with PC recording abilities. Can also be used for the video jam.

Lets see what happens heh?

Awesome!

Before you create a backing track though - let's decide WHAT it will be?... Maybe even some straightforward 12-bar - this way people do not have to be very far down the R&B course in order to participate?...

Just throwing out some ideas :D

Count me in on the Jam. I've been looking to do something like this, but it's difficult in my line of work. Plus, I think it's a little less intimidating getting started with our little group of friends instead of out in the "real" world. I'm sure we can figure on a couple of projects with this one, but I would suggest something really simple at first so that we can work out the kinks.
If you want some recipes, I have a few, but nothing's better on guitar, than some "tasty blues stew".
All the Best,
Christian

Hi Guys,

I have never used this software from Fender but I do remember reading a review about it and it sounded pretty cool. This software allows up to four players to jam online in real time. The url is: http://www.fender.com/promos/2010/ejamming/. They also offer a 30 day free trial period.

The review is at: http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/I ... tware.aspx

Once I stop traveling and get resettled I would be interested in this as well.

All the best.

Ok, I'll get the ball rolling I guess.

Here's a short Jam track I recorded. Jam along if you like, post up results if you dare :D :D :D

Hey Stan, do you have a mac with Garageband? If so maybe you can make a garageband file of yourself doing that track and we can pass it around, each person adding a track to it. Or you could also just make it as an MP3, and we could load that into whatever DAW we're using.

I don't have a Mac.

Now, MP3 - that should be easy. I'll work on it tonight - may even re-record it - make it cleaner, longer and more consistent... I was sort of playing around with different things there, going to try to pick one and stick to it.
