Why Do I Suck At Guitar?

E-mail Print

There are very good reasons why so many people struggle with guitar. The problems start right in the beginning, and in the following 3 videos, I am going to explain the fundamental reasons very clearly to you.

Reason # 1: You Learned Guitar Based On How The Guitar Works, Not On How Your Body Learns!

Everyone begins to learn guitar at the first fret. It is not possible for a beginnger to bend the fingers to the strings as necessary for chords and notes (especially on the first string, which requires maximum bending) without creating great tension in the hand, arm, and upper body.

This tension is "built in" and "remembered" by the muscles through the power of muscle memory. It stays with you and in increased every time you practice. It prevents many people from gaining ANY playing ability, and imposes a limit on the vast majority of players, which is why they reach a plateau they will never get off.

Reason # 2: You Always Practice TOO FAST! This Creates Great Tension In Your Muscles And Destroys Your Control!

Most teachers understand the neccesity for slow practice, but few students (or teachers) appreciate how slow it must be. Also, they rarely understand that if you don't know how to focus on the right things, (the "stress points" in the body created by specific parts of the movement process) slow practice has no effect whatsoever.

Finally, NO metronome speed is slow enough to cause transformation of tension habits in the muscles. Only a deeper approach will give results.

Reason # 3: You Began To Learn At The First Fret! Your Left Hand Formed Many Bad Habits Because Of This!

.

The left hand must be trained, from the beginning, for maximum development of strength, stretch, and independence of the muscles and ligaments of each finger. It almost never is. The left hand is developed in a haphazard way that cripples one finger while it supposedly develops another. This is why so many people can't use their little finger for very much, especially at high speeds, and for hammers, pulls, and trills.

There is a proper, systematic course of left hand developement that gives full functionality to each finger, including the little finger! It is contained in Chapter 4 of "The Principles" and continued in other GuitarPrinciples products.

Here is the FULL story on Proper Left Hand Development For Guitar
