Strumming & Singing

Most people begin to learn guitar by learning a few chords, and then learning to strum and sing a song. This is a good way to learn, but it requires that you are able to change chords smoothly, and be able to keep a steady strum while you sing.

Many guitar students, however, do NOT learn to strum chords smoothly, and besides, they are afraid to sing! This is not good. To be a good guitar player, you must be able to do these things, even if you never plan on singing in public.

After we do learn to strum and sing to a steady beat, most players want to be able to do something more with their chords, such as adding alternate basses, or bass lines, or runs in between chords.

Here you will find information on why and how to learn to strum and sing, and also how to extends these skills.
