An important thing I do with students is show them how to get the most out of their practice time. "...you out there who just keep thinking of going to take lessons with Jamie but put it off.. Stop waiting, and go, I did it for 5 months or so till I moved. Best money and time spent with the guitar.. go,, send her or geraldine a note.. go hurry before the other guy reading this gets your spot......"
Message from Jamie......"it has always been a great pleasure for me to lead lovers of the guitar to the fulfillment of their dreams with the instrument. In fact, The Principles came into being because of my lifelong commitment to making it possible for anyone to learn to play who sincerely wants to, and is willing to do the necessary work. I invite anyone and everyone, regardless of level or style, to come to me, and fulfill your guitar playing dreams."
I am always looking for individuals who want to reach their true potential with the guitar. In my 35 years of teaching every type of person how to play the guitar, I have proven that, with the right instruction from the teacher, and the right effort from the student, anyone can learn to play as well as they want to. If you are ready to go for your dreams with the guitar, simply contact Geraldine for scheduling information. We have many lesson options available, and she will be happy to answer your questions.
Lessons take place in Woodstock, NY, which is about 2.5 hours north of New York City. Woodstock is easily accessible by plane from Albany International Airport, and by the New York State Thruway.
Report from Squeaky after her first lesson................
What I did not expect was the extent to which she dissected the set of movements, habits, and pseudorandom flailings that currently comprise my technique. It's a good thing she has a sense of humor because otherwise it would be pretty boring to see the same series of ways in which students mangle the same material year after year. Since I'm one of those metalheads who hang out on the Troy Stetina page, Jamie focused mostly on my left hand and its various offenses. She went through a detailed BPA workup on the 1-4 ladder exercise and then branched out into other exercises. After that she moved on to the first minor pentatonic scale and the G major scale from the second fret. I'm doing a shocking number of bad things despite having thrown out most of my technique and started from scratch again last October. After that we worked on bends, vibrato, the bends that go with the first pentatonic scale, and the first phrases in the "Stairway To Heaven" solo, particularly a hammer and pull combination that was interfering with a subsequent note. Jamie encourages students to record their lessons, which was extremely helpful. It means I can focus on what she actually said, rather than what I'd like to believe she said. It also means I can identify the specific areas in which I have to work. Today I reviewed the recording and Jamie's written notes. I have a total of 72 separate things to do, fix, or contemplate before my next lesson. That's an average of about three problems per day, and some of them are long-standing bad habits that will not be corrected immediately. So if you'll excuse me I have an urgent appointment with a guitar." Cheers, Squeaky |
