Stage 1 Training gives you:
The Ability To Practice Correctly
This means the knowledge of how to do powerful practice that makes you fundamentally better every time. It effectively teaches your fingers new skills, which is a continuing process as we learn guitar. It means getting maximum results from every minute spent practicing.
A Perfect Left Hand
Your left hand fingers must be trained to work with complete independence from each other. They must work with relaxed control. Most guitar students do not get this in their early training, and do not realize the effects until later. They find they cannot play fast and accurate and their playing is full of mistakes, Stage 1 Training prevents this.
Pickstyle
All beginning guitar students, and many long time players, have very weak picking. They cannot play fast and loud, when they try to, they stumble. This is due to fundamental problems that began when they first learned guitar. This is fixed or prevented in Stage 1 Training.
Fingerstyle
In order to play any kind of fingerstyle or classical guitar with real ability, we must achieve complete independence of the fingers. We must be able to place great force on the string while keeping the arm and shoulder relaxed. Virtually all beginners cannot do this and are not trained to do it.
So they run into countless problems with the music they try to learn. In Stage 1 Training, every student is trained for powerful finger action in free strokes and rest strokes. This sets the foundation for continuous progress into the higher levels of fingerstyle or classical guitar.
“
We teach a sure fire practice method that trains your fingers to move with real control. Then, you play with confidence and your music sounds like it’s supposed to sound.

What Students Say
The Foundation Of Left Hand Technique
It's very simple. If you can't walk, you can't run. If you cannot do these fundamental left hand movements with absolute precision and relaxation, you will not be able to play music that goes beyond strumming chords.
Your fingers must walk before they can run. These Walking Exercises, once mastered, will enable you to play your music with a feeling of ease you have never felt before.
After "Stage 1 Foundation Training" you will be ready to practice and master scales. You will know how to effectively train your fingers in all the vital guitar skills you need to make music!
Fingers 1-4
Most players can't control the little finger. You will learn perfect control, as shown here.
Fingers 1-3
Most players can't use the third finger without tensing the 4th. You will get perfect independence between these fingers.
Fingers 1-2
We complete our left hand control with fingers 1 and 2. Now, you can control all fingers!

Course Contents
- 1PRACTICE APPROACH: Jamie will show you exactly how you need to practice each time you sit down with your guitar, so that your fingers learn the necessary skills for easy, relaxed playing.
- 2LEFT HAND DEVELOPMENT: Jamie will guide you in the all-important first stages of proper left hand development. The complete series of left hand training exercises will be covered, including mastering the 3 vital fingers combinations 1-4,1-3 and 1-2 across all strings. Each student will be given guidance to achieve finger curvature and finger separation, the 2 essential left hand skills.
-Beginners will get a tremendous advantage in the early stages of playing that will guarantee that no obstacles will cause playing problems as they continue to learn guitar.
-Players who have been playing guitar for any length of time, months to years, will learn how to undo the bad left hand habits they have acquired, and begin to see their playing obstacles disappear. - 3RIGHT HAND DEVELOPMENT: Jamie will explain the fundamental mechanics of both right hand styles on guitar: how to develop strong picking, and how to properly train the fingers for perfect control in fingerstyle playing.
Each student will be shown the necessary exercises to practice, and how to practice them so that a free and powerful right hand is achieved.

What Students Say
I FOUND MY INSPIRATION AGAIN!
I have struggled for years trying to learn left hand placement, and the mechanics of the various chord changes, but alone this is nearly impossible.
Everything Jamie describes is what I am experiencing, from having a bad teacher to trying to teach myself. I watched videos of teachers saying "Watch me play it, now you do it." They never tell you the real mechanics of how the fingers must work. This is what is missing from everyone else’s lessons. I think I just found my inspiration again!

I DISCOVERED SUCCESS IN MY PLAYING AND PRACTICING.WITH THE PRINCIPLES
I took a few group lessons. I started feeling that I was attempting to play way beyond my ability. The number of complicated techniques boggled my mind and frustrated my fingers. My right shoulder kept aching so much that I would have to stop playing and rub it.
The Principles explained many things about playing guitar that I had not noticed or knew to be on the lookout for. I have looked at many guitar instruction books, and this is the only one that really addresses where to be within your body in order to become a musician.
That rushing, frenzied, frustrated feeling in practice is gone now. Also, I was in pain before and I am not anymore. The "Principles" have helped me redefine and rediscover success in my playing and practicing."

JAMIE ANDREAS INTERVIEWED IN GUITAR ZERO
In 2012 Jamie Andreas was interviewed by Dr. Gary Marcus for his upcoming book on the science of how people learn guitar. Also interviewed were jazz legend Pat Martino and Tom Morello from "Rage Against The Machine".
"A teacher who impressed me immensely, and who takes a very different approach, was Jamie Andreas. Jamie is one of the few teachers who seems interested in the relationship between muscle and brain, and how to use one’s body efficiently. Swim coaches and golf teachers consider such questions all the time, but it’s decidedly rare in the field of music instruction.

AFTER 5 YEARS, I KNOW THIS SYSTEM WORKS!
The mind is a powerful practice tool, but first, the mind needs to have the right information. This information is found in “The Principles Of Correct Practice for Guitar” and other publications by Jamie Andreas. I’ve been using them for over five years now and know that this system works. Thank-you, Jamie!

A HUGE MILESTONE!
Jamie, I just want to say Thank You for your practice method and teaching guidance!
We had new friends over last night. They saw my guitars and asked if I played. I played and sang House of the Rising Sun on my electric and Fast Car on my acoustic. I am thrilled to say that I had no problem playing and singing both songs and although I had a few butterflies, when I placed my first hand position the slow practice and continuous contact with the guitar paid off and I was calm and relaxed throughout the rest of the song.
Considering a few months ago I struggled with simple 3 chord strumming songs, to play flat-pick and finger style confidently for others is a huge milestone!

"I CAN DO THIS!"
Thank you. Just started "The Principles". It's changing everything for me, and increasing my happiness because I now have confidence I can do this!
Rusty Farrell // Guitar Principles Student
Thanks Jamie, you rock. When I first started playing I thought you were to technical I don't see anyone else explaining things like you do. So I wouldn't follow your suggestions, then after struggling and struggling I started watching your videos again. I guess I'm hard headed.
